Description

The Role: BigHat Biosciences is seeking an exceptional, self-motivated individual to support the development of novel extracts and protocols for high throughput cell-free expression of antibodies for our AI/ML-driven Milliner Platform. 

Goals and Responsibilities

• Develop protocols for high throughput CFPS expression and purification of various protein classes including different antibody formats with high purity and yield for downstream characterization.
• Engineer novel strains of bacteria to make CFPS extracts for production of difficult-to-express molecules.
• Propose and develop SOTA extracts and protocols for CFPS based on literature and advisors to further increase the capabilities of BigHat’s screening platform
• Interface with the Platform and Automation teams to automate CFPS setup and purification protocols using liquid handlers.
• Present experimental results and conclusions to stakeholders including internal team members, BigHat Leadership, and external advisors. 

About You

• PhD in chemical engineering, molecular biology or related field with 2+ years of work experience in an industrial setting
• Experience developing/optimizing protocols for expression of disulfide bonded proteins in CFPS. Preferred to have experience with antibody expression in cell-free.
• Experience with various purification methods including affinity, ion exchange, and size-exclusion chromatography.
• Experience with SEC-HPLC, CE-SDS, BLI, and nanoDSF for characterization of purified proteins
• First hand experience with automated liquid handlers (e.g., Hamilton STAR, Opentrons) highly desirable
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate with members of a multidisciplinary team
• Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
