Job Description

Brightspeed has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Network Engineer to join our brand new, state of the art laboratory. As Principal Network Engineer on the Operations Support and Technology team, you will report directly to the Manager of Operations Support.  In this important role you will be responsible for the installation of our VoIP (Voice over IP) platform to support our voicemail migration project, VoIP applications via SIP, with focus on SIP Trunking solutions. Duties include engineering of a complete VOIP solution delivering documentation that captures design specifics that will be utilized across multiple organizations. Support product organization by designing changes to both TDM and VoIP platforms to deliver innovated go forward customer solutions. In this role you will work directly with the Principal Architect on our internal team to ensure we deliver the vision of our Next-Generation Voice platform.

As Principal Network Engineer you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Leading the installation of all network components to support our next-generation voice platform
  • Supplying design specific documentation and host technical transfers to support teams
  • Responsible for the stand up of the network components needed for Brightspeed to connect to partners to delivery SIP Solutions including SIP interconnection, SIP peering, Long-Distance, and integrations to platforms such as MS teams, Webex, and Zoom
  • Evaluating internal and vendor provided elements that align with strategic roadmaps
  • Participating and following industry standard forums that focus on regulatory initiatives to ensure compliance with federal and state mandates for VoIP and TDM technologies
  • Providing Tier 4 support to operations and support teams
  • Overseeing the technical operation of the laboratory environments
  • Creating test plans for new hardware, firmware, and network designs
  • Working with the Laboratory manger on developing key milestones
  • Working closely with the Architecture and Operations staff to identify and verify real-world issues and developing resolutions
  • Working with Architecture on developing the Golden Config for Brightspeed deployments
  • Leading the development of formalized testing methodologies
  • Providing periodic updates on Lab progress
  • Mentoring other Engineers to assist with their career development
  • Working with the Lab manager to craft presentations for Senior Management on Lab developments
  • Working closely with vendors on solutions, bug fixes, and new products and firmware releases
  • Overseeing proactive and reactive testing and assessments
  • Assisting in developing and maintaining standards and guidelines to preserve test integrity
  • Continually assessing the existing Lab environment and identify opportunities for improving methods and efficiencies
  • Working with the lab manager to assist with keeping the lab running efficiently and producing evidence-based results

Qualifications

WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.E.E or related major)
  • 5+ years of Telecom/Cable/Internet Service Provider industry experience
  • 10+ years experience directly working with SIP and VOIP technologies required
  • Knowledge of IP network routing and switching, VOIP core routing, and cloud-based services required
  • Experience with SIP applications Ribbon C20 Servers, SBCs, and VoIP Gateways
  • Legacy TDM switching and SS7 experience preferred
  • Experience with cloud partner solutions for 3rd party integrations with VoIP platforms
  • Ability to work multiple projects simultaneously with the capability to run various project tasks in parallel to meeting tight timelines
  • Strong knowledge of the required internet working designs of VoIP applications and delivery of the data network requirements to support redundancy and reliability
  • API experience utilizing multiple data formats to support IT integration and deliver auto
