BiggerPockets requires an experienced Senior Product Designer to build the future of our mobile first experience. This person should be an experienced Mobile-First Product Designer with deep experience designing and implementing B2C FinTech, PropTech, gaming, or similar applica-tions.
The Senior Product Designer, Mobile is a core member of our product team and is responsible for designing beautiful and intuitive user experiences through collaboration with company leadership, product managers, engineers, and customers. The product design team is responsible for understanding the needs of our users and defining and delivering end-to-end product design.
As a Senior Product Designer, Mobile, you will care deeply about our customers and can distill complex problems into thoughtful, beautiful, holistic experiences. The ideal candidate is a critical thinker with an exceptional visual and interaction design sense, a strong technical background, and an eye for solving complex problems in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Essential Functions
- Designing a Mobile Experience that will, in the long-run, offer:
- Networking and Community features as powerful as Reddit or LinkedIn
- Educational/News features as powerful as the WSJ or NYT applications
- Market and Deal Finding Capabilities as powerful as Redfin, Zillow, or Realtor.com
- Portfolio Analysis, Property Management, and Wealth Management capabilities.
- Designing an MVP / V1 of this mobile application in partnership with a Product Manager, Engineering Manager, and team of engineers in year 2024.
- This MVP has minimum requirements of:
- Replicating BiggerPockets’ existing networking and forum capabilities, including giving users the ability to navigate the forums, post to the forums, set up alerts, set up and maintain their profiles, view other user’s profiles, and connect and message with other members.
- Replicating BiggerPockets’ website capabilities empowering users to read and comment on blog posts.
- Replicating (and improving on) BiggerPockets’ website capabilities enabling users to connect with Agents, Lenders, Property Managers, and Tax/Finance Profession-als.
- Rapidly iterating on the mobile app UI/UX to drive results in perpetuity, including:
- Driving DAU, WAU, and the ratio of DAU/WAU
- Total app sessions, including page loads, forum posts, forum votes, colleague requests, blog comments, and alerts/notifications subscribed to
- Generating positive feedback about the App, including driving reviews, averaging a 4.8 star or better rating, and regularly reviewing and considering the feedback left in reviews.
- Monetization, including:
- App user conversion to pro membership bookings, bootcamps, and other member-ships revenue.
- App user conversion into leads / connections in our marketplace business
- App user conversion into bookstore purchases
- App user consumption of advertising units.
Critical Competencies
- B2C Mobile-First Design Experience – The ideal candidate will have spent years or decades designing freemium membership experiences, and come from a background in RE Tech, FinTech, mobile gaming, or investing applications. They will bring an instinctive approach to designing onboarding flows that immediately move users to their “aha” moment that creates a high likelihood of immersion with the app.
- Analytics and Engagement: The ideal candidate will be able to flip back and forth with their Design and Product Management “hats” on, and will be continuously studying the data and actual usage patterns of the app to inform development.
- Humility / Iterative / Rapid Deployment: This is not a job where 6 months will or can go by between releases, with major long-term bets. This is a job where dozens of small tests are expected to be run concurrently, and the app will get better with scientific testing, conducted in small increments.
- The right product designer is not someone with a clear vision for the future who will see their roadmap through to completion no matter the cost, but rather someone who can rapidly respond to data points and user feedback with incremental wins, and translate ideas into testable design hypotheses, and find wins with small deployments, user segmentation, and delightful incremental improvements to the experience.
