About the role

Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).  Our MISSION is to help ensure the security of the United States and its allies by providing high-hazard experimentation and incident response capabilities through operations, engineering, education, field, and integration services and by acting as environmental stewards to the Site’s Cold War legacy.  Our VISION is to be the user site of choice for large-scale, high-hazard, national security experimentation, with premier facilities and capabilities below ground, on the ground, and in the air. THIS IS A CASUAL POSITION WORKING A MAXIMUM OF 900 HOURS PER CALENDAR YEAR.

The Strategic Operations and Response Support team is looking for a business intern to support day-to-day operations across the Operations Command Center, Emergency Operations Center, and Continuity of Operations programs. The intern will gain hands-on experience supporting emergency management operations, training, planning, and coordination in a mission-critical environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with emergency operations, planning, and documentation efforts.
  • Support training, exercises, and readiness activities, including preparation of materials, after-action documentation, and improvement tracking. 
  • Conduct research, data entry, and administrative support related to emergency management programs, procedures, and systems. 
  • Assist with process improvement initiatives, job aids, and program development projects as assigned. 
  • Participate in meetings, briefings, and coordination activities to gain exposure to operational decision-making and emergency management workflows.
  • Create and give presentations on both projects and progress to teammates and management.

  • May 19th, 2026 - Summer internship Student Program begins.
  • August 7th, 2026 - Summer internship Student Program concludes.

Due to the nature of our work, US Citizenship is required for all positions.

  • Completion of the first year in a related business degree program at an accredited institution, as of the date application is submitted.
  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student in emergency management, business administration, public administration, homeland security, communications, or a related field. 
  • Must be actively enrolled in school, as of the date application is submitted.
  • Must have and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, as of the date application is submitted.
  • Must be located in the contiguous United States.
  • Must have:
    • Planning/organizing skills and initiative
    • Good written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to follow directions, both written and verbal, and able to work independently as well as part of a team
    • Ability to organize information, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines. 
    • Interest in emergency operations, continuity planning, or operational support functions. 
    • Ability to work professionally in a team environment and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Strong computer skills are desired, including MS Office and computer programming.
  • The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada).
  • A pre-placement drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
