The 9100 Neuroscience Unit at Akron General offers medical attention following strokes, TBIs, spinal cord injuries and other sometimes life-changing medical concerns. As a PCNA on this team, you will perform various tasks, ensuring patients receive frequent attention and feel comfortable, supported and safe throughout treatment. This is a hands-on role that requires a present, attentive and empathetic caregiver who is willing to learn new medical technologies and support patients through some of their most vulnerable moments. On this unit, you will gain a wide variety of skills you can use in advanced positions or other departments within the Cleveland Clinic system.
A caregiver in this position works evenings from 3:00PM – 11:30PM, rotating weekends and holidays.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Prepare units, patient rooms and patient beds for receiving patient admission, returning surgical patients, transfer or emergencies.
Provide and document assigned care, such as bathing, changing/refreshing bed linens, dressing/undressing, feeding, etc.
Take and document the patient's temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, weight and height.
Perform treatment procedures, such as venous blood draws, enemas, application of ice and heat packs, non-sterile compresses, skin preps, setting up oxygen equipment, bed scale weights, setting up overhead trapeze and Buck’s traction.
Assist with pre-operative and post-operative care, such as turning and positioning patients with proper body mechanics, applying/utilizing special equipment and ambulating the patient as directed in a safe, prescribed manner.
Assist and accompany patients during admission, transfer and discharge.
Perform hourly safety rounds, anticipate patient needs and respond to patient call lights promptly.
Document patient care in the electronic medical record.
