About the role

The Facilities Management Department seeks applications for the position of Custodial Supervisor for second shift. This is a full-time, 12-month exempt position.

This position requires knowledge of the practices and materials of custodial service and supervisory techniques, personnel policies, and procedures.  Supervises custodians, Custodial Foreman, Lead Workers and student workers in a union environment.  

The Supervisor coordinates activities and establishes work priorities, monitors employee performance including determination of corrective or disciplinary action, assesses crew coverage of designated work areas, assigns needed coverage, communicates special cleaning instructions and/or assignments, and ascertains compliance with directives.  Accurate maintenance of records, reports, and correspondence is necessary.  Determines and secures necessary materials, supplies, and equipment.   Trains lead workers and working foremen for appropriate job skills, use of equipment and safety practices and participates in the hiring of custodial staff.  Responds to emergencies and takes appropriate action.

Minimum qualifications include three to five consecutive years’ supervisory experience in custodial services required and five to eight years hands-on custodial work. The combination of these two experience qualifications must result in a required ten years combined experience in the custodial field.  Work and supervisory experience with union personnel and experience in student-oriented environment preferred.  Proven supervisory and management experience and excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills a must.  Broad general knowledge of custodial equipment, materials, practices, etc.

Must have mental and physical capabilities to demonstrate essential functions and equipment associated with custodial positions with or without reasonable accommodation, i.e., stand, bend, reach, climb, etc.; may be exposed to extreme noise; independently handle minimum 35 pounds;   Work environment is primarily indoors.
