Introduction to role
The Associate Director role in Medical Evidence Strategy at AstraZeneca is an exciting epidemiologist position focused on generating real-world evidence from Phase 3 projects to post-launch marketed products. The primary goal is to describe unmet needs and demonstrate the value of new medications to various partners, including clinicians, regulators, payers, and patients, using real-world primary and secondary data sources. As part of the global Medical Affairs group, you will be an integral team member of the early or marketed products brand medical team, providing strategic direction and messages based on real-world evidence to ensure optimal treatments for the right patients at the right time.
Accountabilities
Lead medical evidence studies by designing, executing, interpreting, and communicating findings internally and externally with support from senior staff as needed.
Integrate into a product team to contribute to clinical development and commercialization through expertise in real-world data, methods, and disease epidemiology.
Deliver experienced epidemiology strategy, support, and scientific leadership to project teams and the epidemiology global skills group at all stages of pharmaceutical development.
Manage externally commissioned research projects and stay updated on epidemiological developments within academia, regulatory bodies, and among key opinion leaders.
Establish, maintain, and expand relationships with external experts and research groups.
Negotiate time frames, provide recommendations on resource requirements, and ensure task delivery as agreed.
Promote good epidemiological practice and represent the company’s position when interacting with external experts, collaborative groups, or contract research organizations.
Essential Skills/Experience
Ph.D. or equivalent in epidemiology or related health science field and experience in the pharma environment. Alternatively, an MSc or MPH with substantial experience in the pharma environment.
At least 5 years of experience in pharmacoepidemiology and/or disease epidemiology.
Ability to provide critical appraisal to study designs and published studies.
Sustained productivity in epidemiological research as evidenced by successful design, execution, and publication of original epidemiological research relevant to drug discovery and development (e.g., drug safety) or commercialization in a peer-reviewed journal.
Sustained record of epidemiological productivity at both strategic and operational levels.
In-depth experience in using secondary real-world data.
Ability to effectively engage and collaborate with recognized key external scientific experts.

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $141,228.60 to $211,843.40, either as annual base pay or as the hourly rate (annual base pay divided by 2080 hours)]. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles).
