The Oak Ridge National Laboratory has an opening for an Electrician to support fire alarm systems. In this role you will, under limited supervision, perform electrical functions associated with ORNL fire alarm systems as well as other tasks as directed by management.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, replace and install fire alarm panels/systems.

Test electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment or fixtures using testing devices to ensure compatibility and safety of system.

Inspect fire alarm systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair and to ensure compliance with codes.

Diagnose and repair fire alarm system components and systems using diagnostic equipment

Select appropriate materials to complete a job.

Other tasks as assigned by management

Basic (or Required) Qualifications:
-
High school diploma or GED.
-
Job requires completion of an approved electrical apprenticeship program.

Minimum of three years of journeyman level, industrial experience or an equivalent combination of education and relevant electrical experience.

Ability to obtain all necessary fire alarm certifications within a reasonable period as determined by class availability.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Knowledge of drawings, materials, tools and methods involved in the construction or repair of buildings and other structures.

Knowledge of the NEC code book.
-
General knowledge of lock-out/tag-out and relating procedures.
-
Edwards certifications; EST3,EST4, FireWorks, and/or VESDA.

Strong troubleshooting skills down to board level.

General computer skills (e.g. using menu and software driven test equipment).

Experience installing, maintaining, inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing electrical systems, equipment, apparatus, and electrical components of industrial machinery.

Experience adding, maintaining, and replacing circuit breakers, fuses, and wires.

Experience using electrical testing and measuring equipment including voltage and ampere measuring devices and other test equipment associated with the electrical trade.

Experience terminating and troubleshooting fiber optic cables.

Ability to bend and install conduit and other parts using hand tools and specifications.

Ability to evaluate area hazards and ensure they have been addressed and documented.
