Job Duties
As part of the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR), you will play a crucial role in promoting the economic vitality of Virginia by helping qualified individuals start businesses and pursue their chosen fields. DPOR is an executive branch agency under the Secretary of Labor for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our regulatory boards are comprised of practitioners and citizens appointed by the Governor. They are responsible for regulating various professions and occupations, including architects and contractors, cosmetologists, and professional wrestlers. We protect the public by verifying minimum competency, investigating complaints, and upholding professional compliance with state laws and regulations.
This position will manage all board operations and administrative activities necessary for licensing, case adjudication, legislation and regulation development, and program implementation.

TELEWORK OPTIONS: Please note that this position may be eligible for limited telework and is not a full-time telework position. Upon hire into this position, the agency requires the incumbent to be in the position for 90 days before a specific telework schedule may be submitted for consideration.
Minimum Qualifications
• Knowledge of administrative law, regulations, and the procedures associated with professional licensing, including methods of entry (experience, education, and examination); adjudication of licensing and disciplinary cases; and promulgation of regulations.
• Ability to interpret law and regulation, to develop policies and procedures, and to implement legislation.
• Ability to work independently, to supervise and train staff, and to establish cooperative and effective working relationships with colleagues and a variety of groups, individuals, and agencies.
• Ability to direct the administrative activities of boards with complex regulations and operating procedures, including the ability to manage and conduct meetings and studies.
• Ability to identify and analyze problems and formulate solutions.
• Knowledge of legislative process and ability to work with all parties involved. Ability to testify before committees, subcommittees, and commissions.
• Must possess excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to respond to questions concerning programs, procedures, and legislation.
• Ability to direct professional and occupational policy research for a state agency.
• Position of responsibility in public or private agencies, mid/upper management experience is necessary.
Additional Considerations
• Experience in a regulatory environment with progressive responsibility.
• Strong preference for governmental experience.
