Pay
$5,560 - $8,900 Monthly

Job Description
We have an opening for an Academic Graduate Appointee to support/engage in practical research experience to further their educational goals. Opportunities include completing research and working on various projects within atmospheric science, climate and carbon cycle research, geoscience, environmental science, and industrial ecology. In this role, you will perform relatively complex radiochemical tasks for analysis of plutonium, americium, strontium-90 and cesium-137 in water, sediment, and biota in support of the Runit Project (PL 112-149) and the DOE Marshall Islands Program. This position will be filled based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team.
You will
- Provide advanced scientific and technical support in radiochemistry for analysis of Pu isotopes, 241Am, 90Sr and 137Cs in environmental samples by mass-spectrometry and conventional radiometric counting techniques.
- Under limited direction and supervision, refine methods for analysis of 90Sr in calcium rich environmental samples.
- Present work through presentations and/or poster sessions.
- Contribute to report writing and publications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Analytical Chemistry or similar field.
- Sufficient analytical background and practical working experience in performing radiochemical separations, with emphasis on Pu isotopes, 241Am, 90Sr and 137Cs in environmental samples.
- Experience in the preparation of AMS targets for analysis of long-lived Pu isotopes.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to present and communicate concepts and ideas.
- Experience working with personal computers and familiarity with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
Qualifications We Desire
- MS degree in Analytical Chemistry with an emphasis in Radiochemistry or similar field.
