The primary mission of the International Trachoma Initiative (ITI) of the Task Force for Global Health (TFGH) is to successfully, efficiently, and effectively manage the azithromycin mass drug distribution program.

 

The Program Director is responsible for the overall success of ITI's trachoma elimination and child survival efforts in conjunction with program partners and donors by providing leadership, expertise, and oversight in the areas of strategic program development and campaign management; supply chain management; financial management; collaboration with external partners, such as WHO, NGOs, and other relevant organizations; and neglected tropical disease control.

 

The director will oversee the management of azithromycin and manage ITI's work for the elimination of trachoma and the promotion of child survival and will collaborate with partners to develop strategies for efficient and effective stewardship of ITI's azithromycin distribution efforts.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides insight, innovation, oversight, and accountability in carrying out ITI's responsibilities for overall program coordination, such as review and approval of donation requests, monitoring and evaluation, communication and public relations, and timely reporting.
• Sets direction for the content for technical and programmatic meetings (including the Trachoma Expert Committee [TEC] and the Child Survival Expert Committee [CSEC]) including the development of agendas, ensuring that the necessary scientific background documents are appropriate and prepared in advance, and identifying and inviting additional technical resource persons as necessary.
• Develops and negotiates program budgets with Pfizer, the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, the Gates Foundation, and other funders in active consultation with the President and COO of the TFGH.
• Guides the work of country offices and sub-grant recipients.
• Oversees financial management of program budgets.
• Keeps the President and CEO, Chief Operating Officer, and the TFGH Board of Directors apprised of program progress and/or issues through established reporting procedures and mechanisms of TFGH.
• Supervises ITI's team leads and consultants.
• Supports the performance, development, and growth of the ITI team.
• In consultation with the technical lead and expert committees, develops an overall strategy for ITI which includes ensuring the safe, effective, and efficient management of azithromycin for trachoma and child survival.
• Advises governments and partners on strategic, tactical, and technical aspects of mass drug administration with azithromycin.
• The Program Director reports to the President and CEO of the TFGH.
• The ITI Director collaborates closely with representatives of WHO, Pfizer Inc., the Gates Foundation, the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, endemic countries, and other key stakeholders to lead in the design, implementation, evaluation, and expansion of ITI.
• Performs a senior liaison role between ITI, its committees (Trachoma Expert Committee; Project Oversight Committee; and Child Survival Expert Committee), its donors, and other partners on strategies and policies for the elimination of blinding trachoma and the management of azithromycin for child survival.
• Maintains a working relationship with organizations such as WHO, the International Coalition for Trachoma Control (ICTC), USAID, and other implementation donors, and NGOs supporting the implementation of trachoma elimination activities.
• Develops and maintains relationships with the REACH Regional Network, the Gates Foundation, and other donors and implementing partners supporting the improvement of child survival.
• Builds collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, namely governments of endemic countries, bilateral agencies, foundations, and NGOs to ensure successful implementation of sustainable programs in countries receiving the donations.
• Represents ITI and TFGH at national and international meetings and conferences as a presenter, facilitator, or participant.
• Oversees the attainment of goals and objectives of research and programmatic grants.
• Participates in technical and review meetings.
• Works closely with partners and academic institutions to identify research questions relevant to the achievement of global elimination of trachoma and the improvement of child survival through azithromycin mass drug administration.
