Description:  Manages scheduling drivers, influencing a strong safety culture, developing and managing reports in Excel, and providing fluent communication between the drivers, customer service and management team. This position reports to the Operations Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Schedule drivers start, loading and delivery times
  • Partner with drivers to manage and maximize HOS
  • Monitor daily progress of drivers in assigned market
  • Monitor daily workflow in ELD
  • Ensure proper documents are provided to customers
  • Review BOL for special instructions
  • Distribute dispatched loads to drivers
  • If late loads occur send email and contact customer service group about late load
  • If changes occur update dispatch system with changes
  • Work with customer service about cancelled loads, product pickups and PO’s.
  • Manage same day loads called in
  • Be cross trained in multiple markets
  • Work with Fleet Manager to schedule OOS equipment to be tested
  • Assist in the documentation of procedures and policies
  • Run weekly on-time report
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills in a warehouse environment.
  • Experience with warehouse management systems and basic logistics coordination.
  • Basic understanding of warehouse operations including inventory management and shipping/receiving procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Models and teaches the Nicholson Nine values in all supervisory activities.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the department's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints, and resolving problems.

Qualifications

 EDUCATION and/or experience:

  • Solid understanding of the D.O.T. rules and regulations, the driver logbook, and possess the ability to read driver logs and point out errors.
  • Fluent in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Have the ability or experience required to operate in a mainframe and pc environment.
  • Flexible work schedule
  • Able to be on call by phone 24/7
  • Must have experience in scheduling and dispatching trucks and drivers.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in the transportation or logistics field.
  • Transportation Management System experience is a plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, suppliers, during audits and/or employee organizations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
