Job Overview:
The Journeyman 1-3 Ironworker performs standard structural steel erection tasks, including alignment, bolting, and some light fitting. This role is capable of working independently on routine tasks and requires foundational craft certification.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Install steel members into an approximate position while supported by a hoisting device
- Force structural-steel members into final position using turnbuckles, sleeve bars, and hand tools
- Align holes in members with corresponding holes in previously placed members by using drift pins, bull pins, and spud wrenches
- Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of members, using plumb bobs, lasers, and levels
- Bolt members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted or welded in place
- Read and interpret basic erection plans, blueprints, and technical documents
Essential Qualifications and Education:
- NCCER Certification with 2 years experience or a minimum 3 years of industrial construction/maintenance industry experience.
- Must successfully pass applicable written and practical craft tests as part of the selection process.
- Knowledge of hoisting equipment and rigging procedures
- Strong ability to interpret basic erection plans and sketches
- Able to perform journey tasks proficiently with moderate supervision
- Physically able to lift 50+ lbs., work at heights, and tolerate LNG site conditions
Preferred Qualifications and Education:
- Prior experience on modularized LNG projects
- Advanced training in blueprint reading or rigging
- Prior experience on a large industrial construction site
- Basic understanding of construction safety practices (e.g., LOTO, Fall Protection)
