Job Description Summary

The Principal Engineer - Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Software works within the Services I&C Engineering team of the GE Vernova Hitachi (GVH) Engineering organization. The I&C Software team is responsible for designing and implementing software for I&C systems for Nuclear Power Plants. The I&C software team have strong interfaces with electronic hardware design and plant I&C system operations. This role requires technical problem solving, software development/implementation skills and effective communication/collaboration with other teams within the GVH business functions to deliver on key I&C system customer initiatives.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop, evaluate, and introduce embedded software engineering solutions in C/C++ to meet near term and long-range customer needs in the area of I&C.
  • Provide technical consultation on various next generation I&C technology development programs throughout the business.
  • Lead and provide the key technical direction to large projects with critical business impact.
  • Maintain an active role in developing and defining the state-of-the-art I&C Software technology for new product introduction, I&C system upgrades, cost improvements and problem resolution to meet current and future business needs.
  • Support other GE businesses, internal & external customers, and suppliers as required.
  • Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve design, process, product center, supplier, or field issues.
  • Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers.
  • Prepare invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company.
  • Provide technical guidance, direction and training to new and experienced software  engineers, specialists, technicians, and co-ops 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering Discipline (Computer Programming, Electrical or similar) from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 8 as a recognized practitioner and subject matter expert (SME) in software engineering design and implementation 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • The preferred work location for this role is at the GVH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC, but highly qualified remote (US, based) candidates will be considered. (If remote, must be willing to travel and work in Wilmington, NC at least 1 week a month.
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.

Desired Characteristics

  • Operating at a senior level within an organization  
  • Excellent writing and verbal communications skills 
  • Master’s degree or PhD in an engineering or technical discipline preferred
  • Experience in the nuclear industry or I&C focused industry (i.e. Aerospace) 
  • Deep experience in embedded software development, including knowledge of common computer languages (C, C++, python, etc.) and software development tools (Version control, IDE’s, Debuggers, etc.).
  • Experience with the use/application of Coding conventions and guidelines to Software development and for code review.
  • Working knowledge of GitLab
  • Understanding and use of Static Analysis tools and experience with results mitigation
  • Experience in Unit/Module testing of individual functions using industry standard tools sets (e.g., LDRA).
  • Ability to create test artifacts and other documentation to demonstrate compliance with requirements
  • Knowledge of working within a regulated environment (nuclear) 
  • Knowledge of quality standards and systems (e.g., NQA-1 and ISO 9000) 
  • Strong organization skills 

The base pay range for this position is $128,000 to $202,000. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for bonuses, such as a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity. This position is expected to close on Friday October3rd

The company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.
