About the role

The University of Virginia’s Department of Pediatrics Section of Pediatric Allergy, Immunology, and Rheumatology is searching for a full-time Pediatric Allergist/Immunologist faculty member at rank of Assistant or Associate Professor on the Clinical Faculty (non-tenure) track.  Rank, tenure status and salary are dependent upon qualifications.  The appointee will focus on the clinical care of children with pediatric allergic disorders including asthma, allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis, and urticaria as well as children with a variety of immunodeficiency concerns.  This position also affords the appointee a unique and exciting opportunity to participate in our nationally recognized Food Allergy Program by continuing to develop and expand on our oral immunotherapy and food challenge programs in Charlottesville and across the Commonwealth of Virginia.  In this vein, satellite clinic opportunities may also be explored.  The appointee will also perform inpatient consults at UVA in collaboration with the Division of Asthma, Allergy, and Immunology in the Department of Medicine.  The appointee will be a collaborative member of the Section and be positioned to succeed in a dynamic academic environment and advance the clinical, educational, and scholarly goals we offer.  Other duties will include the teaching and supervision of trainees and students.

The University of Virginia’s Section of Pediatric Allergy, Immunology, and Rheumatology boasts nationally recognized Food Allergy, Immunodeficiency, and Eosinophilic Esophagitis programs, as well as a growing drug allergy assessment program with exciting and diverse clinical and translational research opportunities.  In addition, we have a new pediatric bone marrow transplant program that will provide an opportunity for immunology collaboration. Additional collaborations with faculty in our Jeffrey Modell Diagnostic and Research Center for Primary Immunodeficiency are available as well.  As part of the Division of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine, our Section can draw on their expertise, which includes several national research programs in cystic fibrosis and severe asthma along with active aerodigestive, primary ciliary dyskinesia, sleep medicine and neuromuscular weakness programs.  Numerous collaborations with the Division of Asthma, Allergy, and Immunology in the Department of Medicine in basic science, as well as the teaching and training of allergy/immunology fellows, are also available and make for a ripe academic environment and potential for exciting future research opportunities, if interested.  The University of Virginia is committed to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).  Underrepresented minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate degree or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and 3) have completed an ACGME-accredited Allergy/Immunology training program and be Board eligible or certified in Allergy/Immunology.

The University of Virginia School of Medicine and affiliated UVA Health System form the premier medical and research institution in the Commonwealth of Virginia and has a rich tradition of discovery, translational, clinical and health services/outcomes-based research grounded in a culture of collaboration and service.  US News and World Report once again ranked the UVA Children’s Hospital the #1 children’s hospital in Virginia, and our group has a long history of pioneering asthma and allergy-related research. The University is located in Charlottesville, VA, situated in the picturesque Shenandoah Valley just 100 miles from Washington, DC.  Our region boasts outstanding opportunities for outdoor recreation year round, including hiking, water-based activities as well as skiing and snowboarding.  We are just a short drive to Virginia Beach and the Outer Banks of North Carolina to the east and the Blue Ridge mountains to the west.  Some of the state’s finest restaurants and music are showcased on the Downtown Mall, the longest contiguous outdoor mall in the US.  Charlottesville is also host to many award-winning vineyards and is routinely listed among the most desirable cities in which to live, raise a family, and retire.
