Position Summary
Technical Publication Manager manages a team of technical publication professionals to establish objectives and guidelines for technical publications development, and oversees publication production to meet business needs and compliance requirements.
This role leads and supports cross-functional collaboration with development teams to ensure accurate and timely input of supporting information and that all information is integrated and methods of end user distribution is achieved. The Manager of Technical Publications partners with and solicits feedback from internal and external Customers to ensure the right product support content is available to achieve Customer outcomes. This role will provide strategic direction to the technical publication team, including setting priorities, establishing timelines, process controls and compliance oversight. This role leads and contributes in delivering quality product documentation, and acts as a model and advocate for technical content throughout STERIS and NA Service.
Duties
- Supervises the team responsible for the preparation, production, and release of operation, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and technical specifications content for end user documentation for use by field service technicians, technical support teams, Customer technical staff and other related users.
- Responsible for talent acquisition and development for Technical Publication team, which includes hiring, training and development of staff, conducting performance reviews, and providing necessary metrics, and kpi’s to management.
- Assumes responsibility for adherence to regulatory and Company compliance to policy and procedures related to content design and creation, and leads team in driving use of Structured Authoring processes and related programs.
- Establishes priorities and oversees schedules to ensure timely delivery of documentation.
- Works cross-functionally with Product Management, R&D Engineering, Service Engineering and other groups to address documentation requirements across all products.
- Assists in defining standards, templates, styleguides, product hierarchy and glossaries as needed to meet evolving business needs.
- Facilitates technical reviews with Product Management, Regulatory and Engineering to support product release.
- Reviews, recommends, and drives process improvements to ensure the team is operating efficiently and effectively.
- Works with internal stakeholders to clearly define goals and milestones.
- Participates in IT functionality reviews for Windchill/Arbortext upgrades and enhancements.
- Helps define information architecture with other content creation groups across STERIS.
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, or related field. Degree in Technical Writing highly desirable.
- Minimum of 7 years experience in structured authoring
- Minimum 5 years of leadership experience (combined direct and indirect leading cross functional projects).
- Proven success in leading high impact programs and projects to completion.
