Role Summary

The Quality Assurance (QA) Auditor is responsible for developing solutions to provide independent and objective assessment of internal controls governing business, operational, and safety for functions and processes at Alaska and Horizon (and subsidiaries, including McGee Air Services), including but not limited to Flight Operations, Maintenance & Engineering, Inflight, and Airports. As an individual contributor, this role makes recommendations to improve routine and special reviews promoting risk management awareness, operational safety assurance, and helps to develop actionable plans to resolve audit findings.

Key Duties

  • With limited direction from management, works to support Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air operating division by providing an independent and objective assessment of internal controls governing business, operational, safety and regulatory (FAA) processes while working in a team ranging from one to three professionals.
  • Performs inquiries of subject matter experts to gain an understanding of processes for Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air operating divisions.
  • Takes initiative to develop solutions to complex problems, including creating process documentation, identifying internal controls, and developing and executing test plans.
  • Demonstrates project management skills and executes project objectives.
  • Collaborates with management to address business risks and to help develop actionable plans to resolve audit findings.
  • Assists in the performance of special reviews including, but not limited to, system implementations, cost-benefit analyses, and safety/regulatory and/or corporate compliance investigations compliance investigations.
  • Supports external reviews of company operating divisions by supporting both business and aviation-specific projects (such as Department of Defense (DOD) surveys and the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA)).
  • Aids department management by performing assigned or volunteered administrative tasks.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 2 years of experience in Safety, Operations, Auditing, or related area.
  • Bachelor’s degree or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Professional curiosity, personal accountability for results, strong credibility with peers, subordinates, and leaders.
  • Proven track record of working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment on complex projects.
  • Process driven and a strong safety advocate; experience contributing to cohesive, results-oriented teams, and to deliver high-quality results within time budgets and in accordance with audit methodology and standards.
  • Ability to understand complex business and operational processes.
  • Travel approximately 10-50% of the time primarily in North America. Other locations may be required as well.
  • Highschool diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

 

 

 

Preferred

  • Experience in the aviation industry (i.e. pilot, mechanic, quality assurance, airport operations, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of Safety Management Systems (SMS).
  • Strong understanding of risk-based auditing techniques.
  • Advanced Operational qualifications, including technical specialty/certification or experience supporting complex process changes.

Airport SIDA Badge Requirements

Important notification for employees working at an airport or maintenance hangar: Employees will be required to obtain a SIDA badge provided by the airport authority and maintain good standing in order to keep their SIDA badge. Review the SIDA Badge Requirements document for a comprehensive overview. If an employee does not qualify for a SIDA badge or has their SIDA badge pulled from them, the employee will be terminated.
