Position Summary

Under the direction of the Associate Dean and Chief of Staff, the Assistant Director of Data and Analytics is responsible for high-level research design and data reporting and analysis; complex financial modeling and academic program analysis that influences strategic direction and new initiatives, process improvements, and data integrity.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Reporting, Research, and Data Analysis

  • Refines and expands core suite of analytic reports & dashboards (visualizations, predictive models, etc.) that are designed to translate data into usable, actionable information for the formation and execution of strategies and measures of success.
  • Identifies critical metrics and other metric-based evaluative measures appropriate to a given initiative, developing data-driven solutions to report on metrics.
  • Designs tools and systems for conducting original research, including participant identification, instrument development, data collection, data processing and analysis, and synthesis of results.
  • Plans, develops, and ensures the effective implementation of strategies for the identification, retrieval, and manipulation of data from multiple, disparate systems and data sources to perform analysis, assessment, and reporting necessary to make decisions to support strategic initiatives, program development, external reporting, and ongoing projects and decision making.
  • Answers critical strategic questions, with emphasis in academic program assessment, school operations and budget, and student and alumni data by managing small- and large-scale data and research projects and communicating findings in the form of data tables, data visualizations, presentations and reports.  Presents accurate, complete and concise recommendations to leadership based on research and analysis outcomes.
  • Develops monthly and periodic reports and interactive dashboards that respond to user requests for data and meet information needs through standard reports and queries.
  • Provides timely and accurate ad hoc reports.
  • Is an advocate and educator to help all members of the CAPS staff frame operational and academic program questions with data.

Collaboration and Project Work

  • Participates in current and future state analysis, development, and deployment of organizational improvement initiatives.
  • Partners with CAPS staff across different units to ensure access and tracking capabilities of CAPS data for internal metrics and analysis with knowledge and understanding of continuing education best practices.
  • Provides support to all accreditation and compliance activities; monitors and maintains accurate accreditation-related data for CAPS programs.
  • Develops, plans, and executes short- and long-term complex projects involving complicated concepts across financial, HR, and student systems to achieve goals and objectives; creates and manages work groups across the CAPS staff and faculty to accomplish projects and tasks, capturing notes and providing structure to facilitate workarounds and solutions for emerging challenges; holds project status meetings to ensure stakeholders are involved in decision-making and that effective communication plans are in place.

Data Infrastructure Development & Maintenance

  • Evaluates current data management infrastructure and develops information retrieval and analysis processes, automating where possible; leads the implementation of processes necessary to ensure consistent, accurate and timely data aligned across the organization.
  • Curates a data warehouse of essential data to develop and maintain dashboards and models.
  • As CAPS Tableau site administrator, establishes site organization, maintain site users, and audit site’s active reports and dashboards.
  • Develops and implements strategies for improving data quality, expanding data collection in various dimensions, and meeting diverse and fast-changing needs.
  • Conducts audits of established data analytics frameworks and outputs to ensure continued usability.
  • Develops and maintains expertise in reporting tools and systems to ensure reliable, verifiable and consistently retrievable data across the organization.
