JOB ATTRIBUTES 

  DESCRIPTION 

The position is in the Integrated Transmission System Department (ITS), a part of the Georgia Power Company (GPC) Joint Ownership Accounting Organization. The ITS consists of assets owned by 4 separate companies that serve as the power delivery backbone in the state of Georgia. These companies are referred to as “participants” in the ITS agreements and are expected to own and maintain transmission assets in proportion to their peak usage of the transmission system. Keeping transmission assets and their usage in proportional balance is commonly referred to as being in “parity.” 

This system is unique, and the ITS accounting department ensures that the associated costs of using, operating and maintaining the system are shared fairly amongst the participant owners. GPC is the ITS system operator. This position is part of a collaborative team, executing the accounting and billing of the various ITS contracts and ensuring compliance with GAAP, SEC, FERC, and GPSC requirements. The position will also support the billing of certain jointly owned generating plants.

The position will be:  

  • filled at a level dependent on the skills and experience of the individual selected 
  • expected to perform detailed analytical and investigative work to ensure compliance with the ITS contracts, procedures, and agreements
  • expected to improve the efficiency and accuracy of current processes
  • hybrid, working both remotely and at the GPC Office in Atlanta

The person in this position will work directly with various departments within Georgia Power Accounting Finance and Treasury, GPC Transmission, and external ITS participant personnel. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • ITS Parity – Support the calculation of transmission facility rental payments between participants balancing system usage and ownership
  • ITS Shareable Billing – Support ITS system O&M cost recovery
  • ITS Spare Equipment Billing – Supports the calculation of carrying cost recovery, sales, and purchases of pooled assets
  • ITS Investment – Maintain GPC ITS asset investment records
  • Review other ITS participants' investment submissions
  • Joint Owner Cost Sharing Billing for Plants Hatch & Wansley
  • Monthly meetings and ad-hoc communications with ITS Participants and generating plant Co-Owners 

JOB REQUIREMENTS 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field is required
  • Advanced degree in accounting or a related field is a plus
  • CPA license (or equivalent) is a plus

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of Utility Accounting Experience is required
  • Experience with Oracle Financials is required
  • PowerPlan property module experience is a plus
  • Transmission experience is a plus
  • Auditing experience is a plus

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of the utility industry and general financial and accounting concepts
  • Analytical and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments 
  • Plan, prioritize, and coordinate detailed phases of work for individual assignments to meet deadlines
  • Effectively communicate solutions in a concise and professional manner
  • Provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity
