Job Summary

Parks Seasonal Maintenance are responsible for general maintenance duties required for proper upkeep of park district owned or managed parks and facilities. These duties will be performed under the direction of the Parks Maintenance Manager, Natural Resources Manager, Superintendent of Parks, Superintendent of Parks, Planning & Development and/or any full-time department staff. The hiring range for the position is part of this job posting, the full pay range approved for this position is $15.00 - $22.50.

Start date can be flexible to accommodate college schedules.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily and demonstrate the District’s core competencies consisting of integrity/ethics, job knowledge, interpersonal skills, policies & procedures compliance, work quality, risk management/safety, District/Department vision and values, adaptability/flexibility, dependability, teamwork, and productivity. 

 

Essential Duties

  • Be at the assigned facility/park at the assigned time and remain at the facility/park during the scheduled time.
  • Remove all garbage and refuse materials from parks and playgrounds.
  • Obey the practical safety rules, regulations, and procedures established by the loss control program that is pertinent to the activities conducted by the department.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (ear plugs, safety glasses, gloves, etc.).
  • Assist in the setting up, operation and taking down and other maintenance duties of special events.
  • Promptly report all accidents and injuries occurring within the course of employment, no matter how minor to the supervisor.
  • Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices, or conditions observed to the supervisor.
  • Operate assigned Park District vehicles and motorized equipment
  • Operate equipment including but not limited to mowers (comparable to a 580 Toro mower), weed eaters, power washers, blowers and other miscellaneous power equipment as directed.
  • Perform general horticultural practice of plant material in include maintenance, installation and removal.
  • Operate tractors and riding/walk-behind mowers to mow and trim turf
  • Perform general maintenance functions as assigned for parks, buildings, facilities, and park site furnishings/equipment.

Communication

  • Use appropriate time keeping method/system to accurately record time worked in accordance with policy/procedure.

Technical Skills

  • Perform general maintenance service as assigned on District vehicles and equipment.

Leadership

  • Attend all required safety programs and in-service education meetings.
  • Avoid engaging in any horseplay and refrain for distracting others.
  • Actively support loss control programs that effectively control and reduce accidents.
  • Cooperate with and assist in the investigation of accidents to identify cause and corrective measures to prevent their recurrence.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and demonstrate the competencies listed above in addition to the following:

  • Minimum of 17 years of age, 18 years of age is preferred.
  • Physical ability and endurance to perform the job as required.
  • Ability to operate motorized vehicles.
  • Ability to operate hand and self-propelled power equipment.
  • Ability to climb and or work from step or extension ladders and mechanical lift.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and is self-motivated.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules.
