Zoetis Veterinary Medicine Research and Development (VMRD) is seeking a talented, experienced individual to provide Data Support for R&D. This is a unique opportunity to join the Data Solutions organization and work directly with scientists to advance therapeutics from idea through research & development by quickly developing solutions to improve their processes, and partner with Automation and Data Sciences (ADS) groups to integrate solutions into broader VMRD data objectives.
Position Summary
The data support specialist will join the Automation and Data Solutions (ADS) team to maintain, develop, troubleshoot and implement data handling systems for individual scientists and/or multisite, cross-functional teams. This position will require a highly effective listener and communicator to collaborate with team members across the organization to provide data support tools and systems to laboratory scientists. The ideal candidate is willing to learn about scientists’ processes and needs, provide guidance on possible solutions to address gaps, and implement solutions in collaboration with scientists, lab automation/data specialists, data scientists, and Zoetis Tech & Digital (ZTD). It is essential that the candidate possess excellent listening and problem-solving skills, communicates effectively, is change-agile, highly adaptable and can work both within a team and individually to deliver on objectives related to data capture, storage, searching, integration, and visualization.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with scientists to understand their data management needs and apply a broad knowledge of data platforms/solutions in use at Zoetis to resolve their data management needs.
- Author and/or configure templates and tools to manage data, such as MS Excel macros, BioRails/Morphit, IDBS eWorkbook, Benchling, Alteryx, etc.
- Write maintainable, tested code in Python or similar programming language which connects to APIs and data providers to move and transform data as needed.
- Partner with ADS technology groups to understand available tools and platforms, and recommended the best tech stack to apply for a given situation.
- Maintain a strong focus on responsiveness and patience to support scientists as they adapt to new data tools, while also keeping training materials up to date.
- Continuously research and learn about the latest technologies and industry trends to improve the application development processes.
- Provide administration, technical support and troubleshooting for existing applications.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or relevant technical or scientific discipline with 5+ years of experience developing and automating data handling tools for yourself or others; experience in a Life Sciences field is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally between data partners and development teams to identify and solve complex problems while creating data solutions that meet the customer’s needs.
- Proven interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to explain complex ideas to audiences without a technical background.
- Proven problem-solving experience with discipline and determination to completely resolve issues to meet partner group requirements.
- Intermediate or higher proficiency with Excel, Alteryx, BioRails/Morphit or other data tools. Python and SQL experience is a plus.
- Experience using version control systems and processes.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or within a team as well as manage multiple projects simultaneously.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $ 89,000 - $123,000 . Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.
