Associate Director, Engineering

Job Description

DUTIES:

Responsible for complex workstreams and implement capital project scope and technical studies that support business objectives, with focus on Process Design and Process Safety for Small Molecule High Potency/Containment Projects. Develop project scope, front-end planning, and provide innovative designs and solutions that meet business objectives. Provide technical guidance during projects, assess viability of technology in proposed configuration, verify adherence to company standards and practices, and ensure deliverables are technically sound. Responsible for preliminary designs, including P&ID development and PHA activities. Provide guidance during project implementation, including Commissioning & Qualification. Direct work of Engineering Firms and supplier/vendors (no direct reports) to progress project related deliverables. Participate in development and review of engineering guidelines, standards, safety/environmental policies, and change requests. Define intent in Front-End Loading, Peer input during design, oversight during operation and development/implementation of Process Safety Initiatives. Up to 25% domestic/international travel required.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education requirements:

• Master's degree or equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Applied Life Sciences and 8 years of experience in the job offered or related occupation in the pharmaceutical industry

• OR bachelor’s degree with 10 years of experience in the job offered or related occupation in the pharmaceutical industry.

• Must Have At Least 5 Years of Experience in The Following:
  • Process Design and Equipment Startup of Reactors, Dryers, Pressure Safety Devices, And Other Relevant Pharmaceutical Unit Operations
  • Capital Project Experience, Including Adherence to Schedule and Budget for Deliverables, Leadership of Teams, Vendor Management, And Demonstrated Communication With Senior Leaders
  • API Small Molecule Manufacturing and Potent Compound Handling Experience
  • Process Safety Management, Emergency Management, And Incident Investigations
  • Facilitating Process Hazard Analysis and Execution of EHS Risk Assessments.

• Must Have At Least 2 Years of Experience in The Following:
  • Product Development and Commercialization with Focus on Pilot Plants
  • Detailed Understanding of Level of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Including Facilitation
  • Applying Knowledge of Regulations/Industry Guidance (NFPA, ATEX, CE, And OSHA)
  • Process And Product Safety Testing
  • Reviewing And Developing Safety and Engineering Standards and Guidelines For Company Wide Use
  • Applying Lean and Six Sigma Tools
  • Mentoring And Developing Junior Engineers.

• Willing to travel.

Salary:

The salary range for this role is:

$139,600 - $219,700/yr

The successful candidate will be eligible for annual bonus and long-term incentive, if applicable.
