About the role

Roche fosters diversity, equity and inclusion, representing the communities we serve. When dealing with healthcare on a global scale, diversity is an essential ingredient to success. We believe that inclusion is key to understanding people’s varied healthcare needs. Together, we embrace individuality and share a passion for exceptional care. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organisation (pRED), we make transformative medicines for patients in order to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. At pRED, we are united by our mission to transform science into medicines. Together, we create a culture defined by curiosity, responsibility and humility, where our talented people are empowered and inspired to bring forward extraordinary life-changing innovation at speed.

This position is located in Molecular Characterization, a department within Large Molecule Research, where we discover and develop novel therapeutic antibodies and next generation biologics. Our ambition is to deliver such molecules to patients with game-changing clinical benefits.

Job mission

We are offering an opportunity for a Senior Associate in the Mass Spectrometry Department to work with multidisciplinary teams of scientists dedicated to the in-depth characterization of complex biologics by the combination of physicochemical methods. You will be the bridge that fosters collaboration and innovation in the discovery of next generation biologics. This temporary position therefore offers the opportunity to interact with numerous functions within Roche to deliver novel medicines to patients.

Your impact

  • Developing and applying mass spectrometry methods for the analysis of complex biopharmaceutical molecules.

  • Utilizing automated sample preparation workflows coupled to fast LC-MS methods.

  • Support of interdisciplinary teams within the unit of Molecule Characterization.

  • Contribution to structural mass spectrometry investigations.

  • You will be closely interacting and collaborating with scientists from protein analytics, bio-processing and data science in a cross-functional matrix.

  • Presentation of data internally and externally, as well as literature research will be part of your tasks.

Your profile

Personally, you are goal oriented, have a strong drive, analytical mindset and motivation to achieve excellence; you are willing to perform wet lab experiments and eager to establish new techniques. You are a strong team player, but capable of working independently where necessary. Ideally, you have experience in working in interdisciplinary and international teams. You are a good communicator, open and curious, making sure your ideas and results are put on the table, and are happy to receive constructive feedback and learn from it. You feel comfortable processing different analytical request in parallel in a pragmatic, proactive and solution-oriented way.

Technically, you bring an apprenticeship as laboratory technician with significant work experience in LC-MS or higher education (e.g. Bachelor or Master in natural science - chemistry, life sciences, pharmacy or related field). Work experience in  protein or peptide analytics (e.g. in the fields of research, development) is an advantage. In addition you bring:

  • You enjoy the molecular characterization of next generation biotherapeutics by various means of mass spectrometry methods (e.g. intact mass, peptide mapping, HDX).

  • You are familiar with automated sample preparation platforms and have hands-on experience in the development and optimization of HPLC, UPLC and mass spectrometry methods.

  • You are interested in data & digital topics and keen on using IT applications to simplify data evaluation and reporting.

  • Prior experience in working with gene therapy approaches (e.g. AAVs) or antibody-drug conjugates would be a plus.

  • Good English skills (written and spoken) complete your profile.
