We are actively pursuing a highly motivated, NBIS Bridge Inspection Assistant to join our Southeast Bridge Inspection Group.
About the Transportation Business Unit
The Transportation Business Unit provides transportation engineering services for all project types and scopes, from the largest interstate systems to local municipality roads. Some of the services provided include roadway and intersection design, corridor improvements, bridge replacement and rehabilitation, and environmental documentation. Our traffic, highway, structural, and environmental planning engineers work collaboratively to deliver innovative, cost-effective, and long-term transportation solutions.
What You’ll Do:
The Bridge Inspection Team Assistant will help deliver outstanding bridge inspections and assist as needed with design services. Qualified candidates will work with experienced engineers to inspect bridges of all shapes, sizes and materials to help ensure the safety of the traveling public in the Carolinas and across the country. The Inspector will document progress according to state agencies Manual of Procedures.
- Responsible for intermediate level duties including assisting our Bridge Inspection teams to perform inspections in the field, entry of field data in into specialized software, entry of data into Microsoft Word/Excel/Access, assembly of reports and other documents.
- Willingness to operate with proper training, access equipment (man-lift, snoopers, boats, etc.)
- Out of town travel for inspections; average approximately 10 days a month.
- Ability to perform field work which can include carrying ladders and gear, working at heights, climbing, working in hot or cold weather, etc.
- Willingness to take job related trainings.
What You’ll Bring:

- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Valid driver’s license
- Working knowledge of AutoCad or Microstation preferred
Educational/Professional Qualifications:
- Ability to obtain a Bridge Inspection Team Leader qualifications within 1 year. There are four ways to qualify as a team leader:
- Be a registered professional engineer (PE) and successfully complete an FHWA approved course
- (5) years of bridge inspection experience and successfully complete an FHWA approved course
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited college, successfully pass the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering exam, have (2) years of bridge inspection experience, and successfully complete an FHWA approved course
- Associate's degree in engineering or engineering technology from an ABET accredited college, have (4) years of bridge inspection experience, and successfully complete an FHWA approved course
- Experience in NCDOT WIGINS, SCDOT BrM software, VDOT, or ability to learn
- Experience in SPRAT, protective climbing, or desire to learn.
- Experience with inspection services (bridge, government, construction, residential, industrial)
- NDE/NDT experience/certification, specialized in Ultrasonic preferred
