What You Will Do:

Hot Section Module Center (HSMC) North is a world class fabricator of military combustors, augmentors, nozzles and specialty coated hardware.  HSMC North is a key contributor to P&Ws operational fleets with a complex product line.  HSMC North is looking for a high energy, self-starter to assume the role of Lead Quality Engineer (QE).

Quality Engineers are integral to the continued success of the mod center as the leaders of problem resolution teams related to part manufacture in the value stream, the drivers of process improvement and educators of technical requirements. They also act as liaisons between the mod center and internal and external customers when discussing quality concerns. In this position, your primary role will be to support the shop floor production and Quality organization initiatives. A lead QE is responsible for direct action and support to other QEs on reviewing procedures, specifications, work instructions and equipment to ensure compliance to Quality Management Systems and educate impacted parties for Quality System changes.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise of non-conforming material and support the communication and processing of quality notifications through the Material Review Board (MRB) process
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes and hardware to determine compliance to applicable requirements
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering and Operations to improve part quality signature
  • Improve manufacturing, assembly, inspection, and test processes to reduce and prevent defects and prevent quality escapes to our customers
  • Provide quality engineering support (interpretation, process approvals, etc.) to production associates
  • Support day-to-day manufacturing activities such as review and approval of work instructions, process authorization requests (PAR), and first article inspections (FAI)
  • Use continuous improvement tools as well as the principles of lean manufacturing to investigate compliance concerns, quality escapes, and Quality process efficiency
  • Perform root cause analysis, identifying and implement robust corrective actions and gauge effectively ensuring quality standards are maintained
  • Perform and follow-up on internal and external quality audits
  • Work with supplier quality engineering to resolve supplier issues that impact in-house hardware
  • Develop and deliver technical and Quality System training to inspectors and impacted stakeholders
  • Support and drive improvement to risk management processes for new product introduction

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 10 years working experience in the aerospace industry
  • 7 or more years of aerospace Quality Engineering experience within a production facility
  • Experience in change management and internal and external stakeholder communications
  • Experience supporting cross-functional teams in application of AS9100 or ISO9001 Quality Management System
  • Demonstrated track record of continuous improvement resulting in product quality and business efficiency improvements
  • Experience developing metrics, tracking, and driving gap closure actions
  • Experience with assessment, control, and approval of manufacturing and inspection processes
  • Experience developing and providing training
  • Experience making decisions with minimal supervisi
