Job Description

A transportation dispatcher plays a vital role in managing the logistics and coordination of transportation operations. This role is essential for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of transportation services, making it a critical part of the logistics and supply chain industry.

KEY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Scheduling and Dispatching: Assign vehicles and drivers to pick up and deliver goods or passengers based on customer requests and needs.
• Route Planning: Plan and adjust routes, assign drivers, to ensure timely and efficient deliveries, considering traffic, weather, and other conditions.
• Communication: Maintain constant communication with drivers, customers, and other departments to coordinate activities and resolve issues.
• Monitoring: Track the location and status of vehicles and shipments using computer systems and GPS.
• Record Keeping: Maintain logs of activities, delivery times, truck fleet assets and inspections and any issues that arise. Prepare and submit reports on performance and activities.
• Customer Service: Address customer inquiries and complaints, ensuring a high level of service.
• Compliance: Ensure all operations comply with company policies and relevant repairs, inspections, and regulations.
• Continuous Improvement: Work with local team to improve logistics processes to reduce freight costs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Familiarity with local roads and transportation networks.
• Previous experience in a dispatch or logistics role, preferred.
• Ability to use dispatch software, GPS, and other tracking tools.
• Lifting Capacity – ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
• Mobility – Prolonged periods of time on feet, standing, bending, etc.
• Exposure – Moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and non-climate-controlled environment.
• Noise Tolerance – Noise levels may be high at times
