Lead Route Planning Software Engineer [Staff or Senior]

As our Lead Route Planning Engineer, you will technically lead our design and implement planning algorithms that improve aircraft safety, efficiency, and other user-defined objectives from the ground up. Using real and simulated flight data, you will build robust models of aircraft performance, which will aid in prediction and optimization tasks. You will also have the opportunity to support other technical areas such as a higher-level AI flight assistant.

What you’ll do:

• Design and implement planning algorithms that improve aircraft safety, efficiency, etc.
• Use and assist in the curation of real and simulated flight data to meet the feature goals
• Understand the goals of customers (pilots and operators) to ensure the feature works well for their needs
• Support the rapid development, prototyping, and testing of AI/ML solutions to real-world problems using simulated and real aircraft
• Participate in defining and refining the software architecture
• Improve system efficiency by optimizing interactions between system components
• Support other AI/ML or statistical work as schedule permits

What will make you successful:

• Four or more years of leading successful software development in a production environment is the most important
• ITAR-eligible (U.S. Person)
• Solid engineering or mathematics background, strong problem-solving and analytical skills, and familiarity with probability and statistical methods
• Proficiency in C++ or Python
• Experience with traditional, learned, and ensemble global route planning algorithms (RRT*, reinforcement learning, etc.)
• Experience applying ML to model system performance and dynamics
• Experience building ML datasets, data processing pipelines, and solutions, particularly those using CNNs, LSTM/RNNs, transformers, and deep reinforcement learning
• Considered a technical leader guiding technology choices, capable of influencing others and building consensus

Bonus Points:

• A technical degree (CS or related) and strong academic experience in ML and RL
• Prior experience or a passion for advanced mobility and aviation
• Exceptional experience deploying ML models in safety critical applications
• Experience with optimizing the storage and processing of large datasets
• Experience deploying models on low SWAPc computers and CUDA/TensorRT
