Summary of Job Duties:

The successful applicant will be responsible for conducting research investigating the molecular, genetic, and virulence diversity and biology of plant pathogenic fungi, oomycetes, and viruses on various agriculture crops. Additionally, the applicant will manage the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, train and assist students and staff, supervise hourly personnel, and manage a large portfolio of greenhouse, field, and laboratory experiments. Specific responsibilities and duties include designing and conducting experiments, data analyses, publication of results in scientific journals, and general laboratory management.

As a full-time lab member, this position includes responsibility for maintaining safety standards and meeting regulatory requirements, and general laboratory maintenance including maintenance of culture collections, lab supply inventory and general lab organization.


Qualifications:

Minimum

  • BS in a Life Science
  • 1 Year Lab Experience

Preferred

  • Graduate Level Coursework in Plant Pathology or related field
  • Experience in bioassays with plant pathogens (foliar and soil borne), characterization of molecular and genetic diversity of plant pathogens, and population biology. Primary research tasks will involve nucleic acid preparation for high-throughput sequencing, qPCR, fungal isolation and growth, and greenhouse plant maintenance. The selected individual must be comfortable tracking and working with large sample formats and databases.
