Job Description Summary
The Certified Instrument Specialist Technician reports to the Manager, Sterile Processing. Under general supervision of the department manager, shift supervisor or designee, the Certified Instrument Specialist Technician performs instrument production, case assembly, sterile processing, decontamination of surgical instruments in compliance with medical center policies and procedures, state, local and federal requirements. Job Description
The Certified Instrument Specialist Technician reports to the Manager, Sterile Processing. Under general supervision of the department manager, shift supervisor or designee, the Certified Instrument Specialist Technician performs instrument production, case assembly, sterile processing, decontamination of surgical instruments in compliance with medical center policies and procedures, state, local and federal requirements. This position participates in quality improvement initiatives and functions as a preceptor to new hires.
Additional Job Description
Graduate of high school or GED equivalency examination and must be certified and maintain a certification in sterile processing from HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution) and have at least three (3) years of experience in sterile processing and/or leadership role. Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) and/or Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) certification preferred. Possess ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of processes. Applicant must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Basic computer skills required. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high pressure health care environment required. Leadership, supervisory or management experience preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills required. Detail oriented required. Travel may be required. Holiday work and emergency management/disaster team work required.
