Responsibilities
Recognized industry specialist with technical insight in multiple fields and disciplines. Complexity of work is state of the art and may be new to the Company and to the industry. Serves as consultant to the business unit in long-range planning concerning new or projected areas of technological research and advancements. Is instrumental in attracting/obtaining major new business. Bachelor's (or equivalent) with 16+ years of experience or a Master's with 14+ years of experience. Researches, designs, develops, and tests structures, propulsion units, and guidance and control subsystems for aircraft, missiles, or spacecraft. Analyzes aerospace product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs, which can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods. Analyzes project requests and proposals and engineering data to determine feasibility, producibility, cost, and production time of aerospace or aeronautical products. Directs and coordinates activities of engineering or technical staff designing, fabricating, modifying, or testing of aircraft or aerospace products. Develops design criteria for aeronautical or aerospace products or systems, including testing methods, production costs, quality standards, and completion dates.
Specific responsibilities for this position include, but not limited to:
- Plans and conducts experimental, environmental, operational and stress tests on models and prototypes of aircraft and aerospace systems and equipment
- Evaluates product data and design from inspections and reports for conformance to engineering principles, customer requirements, and quality standards
- Formulates mathematical models or other methods of computer analysis to develop, evaluate, or modify design according to customer engineering requirements
- Reviews performance reports and documentation from customers and field engineers, and inspect malfunctioning or damaged products to determine problem
- Evaluates and approves selection of vendors
- Plans and coordinates activities concerned with investigating and resolving customers' reports of technical problems with aircraft or aerospace vehicles
- Evaluates new technologies for application in improving design of aerospace systems
- Plans, coordinates, directs, and evaluates testing of aerospace systems
- Performs risk assessment of aerospace systems and generates risk mitigation plans and strategies.
- Develop required environmental and vehicle models and integrate them with flight software to perform nominal and Monte Carlo dispersed software guided trajectory simulations
- Process the simulation data and perform trajectory/performance/guidance analyses to ensure compliance with mission design requirements
- Interface with Launch Service Provider (LSP) personnel and resolve related technical issues in support of mission integration activities
- Participate in related LSP technical reviews and support discipline analysis working group meetings
- Document and present responsible IV&V activities and analyses
- Provide technical support to the management as requested
Qualifications
- BS 16-18, MS 14+, PhD 10+
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
- Strong technical understanding in orbital mechanics, vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, and rocket propulsion.
- Excellent capability in model development, computer programming, and data analysis
- Excellent communication and writing skills
- Familiar with C/C++, Fortran, Ada, and Matlab
- Working experience in launch vehicle analyses is preferred
