The Tasmanian Health Service is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for 2026 Unaccredited Registrar – Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT).
The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania, and the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania Medical School. The Hospital provides most specialist medical services for the region or state.
About Otolaryngology Department
The Department consultants and the Junior staff are involved in running general outpatient clinic and specialised clinics (Head and Neck, Laryngology, Congenital hearing loss) and theatre sessions. It is very well supported by an Audiology department and Speech Pathology Department.
We work closely with our colleagues from other department such as Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic surgery, Respiratory and Paediatric Department and Department of Emergency and others, when combined care is required for complex cases.
Our Outpatient clinics and Theatre facilities are supported by qualified and dedicated administrative staff and high standard equipment.
Salary
$134,930 – $189,005 per annum pro rata base salary per annum plus superannuation
Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022

Period of Employment
Fixed term, full time, day work, 76 hours plus 10 hours protected training time (pro-rata) per fortnight, effective 2 February 2026 until 1 February 2027 (24 months negotiable).

Duties
The Registrar is responsible for the day to day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients within the allocated site/facility. Provide after-hours emergency as determined by the relevant work unit.
Essential Requirements
- General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Current Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).
The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
a) Crimes of Violence
b) Sex Related Offences
c) Serious Drug Offences
d) Crimes involving dishonesty
2. Identification check
3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check
Desirable Requirements
Demonstrated ENT experience at a Senior RMO or Registrar level
