 Position Description:

The Food Service Manager in Training (MIT) will receive comprehensive training to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to manage and oversee food service operations in a convenience store environment. This position offers an excellent opportunity for growth and career advancement within the food service and retail industry. The MIT will work closely with the Food Service Manager to gain hands-on experience in managing food preparation, staff, inventory, and customer service, with the goal of eventually becoming a Food Service Manager.

 

Responsibilities:

Training & Development:

  • Participate in a structured training program that focuses on leadership, customer service, food safety, inventory management, and operational procedures.
  • Assist in supervising and guiding kitchen staff, providing directions on food preparation, cleanliness, and operational efficiency.
  • Learn to manage day-to-day food service operations, including kitchen workflows, staff scheduling, food ordering, and product quality control.

Food Service Operations:

  • Monitor and maintain high standards of food preparation, presentation, and quality. Ensure all food items meet store standards for taste, appearance, and consistency.
  • Ensure compliance with all local and state health codes and food safety regulations. Train staff on proper food handling, sanitation, and safety procedures.
  • Assist in managing inventory levels, including placing food orders, receiving deliveries, and performing stock rotation. Learn to conduct regular inventory counts and report any discrepancies to management.
  • Participate in customer service training and assist in creating a welcoming environment for customers. Ensure food is prepared and served in a timely manner while maintaining a positive customer experience.

Staff Supervision & Training:

  • Learn to schedule and supervise kitchen staff, ensuring adequate staffing levels during peak and off-peak hours. Assist in managing labor costs while maintaining service standards.
  • Help train new kitchen employees in proper food preparation, cooking techniques, safety procedures, and store protocols.
  • Assist in addressing employee issues, conflicts, or customer complaints in a professional and effective manner.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Learn to manage daily reports on food sales, inventory usage, and waste. Assist in tracking and maintaining records for food safety compliance.
  • Assist in monitoring food costs, waste management, and order volumes to maintain profitability while ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Learn the basics of creating employee schedules and tracking time worked. Assist in ensuring that all employees follow company policies and labor laws.

Health & Safety Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations related to food service, including health inspections, safety protocols, and sanitation standards.
  • Participate in ongoing safety training and emergency procedures, including safe operation of kitchen equipment and handling of hazardous materials (e.g., cleaning supplies, oils, etc.).

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify areas for operational improvement and work with senior management to implement solutions.
  • Collect and analyze customer feedback to improve service, food quality, and overall operations.
