Production Operator - Cold Rolling Quality Technician

Job Summary: 

Ensure all Cold Rolling personnel are equipped to achieve maximum performance and meet quality standards for both internal and external customers. Candidate will be responsible for ABS sheet inspections and decision making, support on CBS sheet inspections and decision making, SAP dispositions, and ensuring metal flows to the next process in a timely manner.  Primary focus is ABS surface quality, customer satisfaction and ensuring all recovery and quality expectations are followed.  Measurable: Customer claims, whole piece loss goal and Recovery.  Time allocation requires 80% floor time, 20% SAP dispositions. 

  

Responsibilities: 

• Perform Automotive Strip Inspections and support canstock strip inspections as needed. 

• Decision making on surface defects and roll changes for automotive and support for canstock. 

• Operate inspection Station. 

• Maintain and train employees on Quality Defect Catalog. 

• Verify gauges are correct with Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge. 

• Verify surface roughness is correct using Surface Roughness Tester. 

• Verify outer surface quality using the stoning process. 

• Review and disposition using SAP. 

• Review process data using optimize. 

• Perform process, KPV, coil storage, and incoming coil audits. 

• Communicate upstream issues and monitor downstream concerns. 

• Perform ABS sheet inspection certification training with operators, supervisors, and other employees requiring certification. 

• Provide updates to supply chain on priority and aged coils.  

• Request deviations on ABS product when needed through SharePoint. 

• Support standard operating procedures for all jobs related to Cold Rolling – this includes creating, reviewing, and updating quality related SOP’s. 

• Monitor Inspection station setup parameter on all production to optimize cost, quality and performance. 

• Ensure that all Key Process Variables and Daily Quality Checks are filled out properly and the efforts are effective. 

• Review and address reasons for diversions and scrap with process engineering support. 

• Communicate customer issues and claims to cold mill personnel for awareness 

• Assist with customer claim analysis and root cause analysis. 

• Train all Cold Mill employees on Rolling defects and others as needed. 

• Supply corrective action to Recovery Owners. 

• Develop and mentor production team on Quality Requirements; program developed and training in-process. 

• Effectively collaborate with the Automotive technical support group. 

• Support and develop Best Practice efforts for automotive and can stock products. 

• Maintain open dialog with Constellium Bowling Green and other customer sites with visits as needed. 

  

Qualifications: 

• High school education with equivalent practical experience.   

• 2-3 yrs. experience in a cold rolling mill preferred. 

• Ability to obtain ABS surface inspection certification. 

• Familiarity with Statistical Process Control. 

• Must be able to transfer technical information into layman’s terms for effective understanding.  

• Standard writing to include company correspondences and training documentation.  

• Must be capable to facilitate and lead meetings to accomplish a positive and effective outcome. 

• Ability to work with a broad cross section of people from top managers, production work force and internal and external customers. 

• Ability to handle multiple tasks and establish appropriate priority. 

• Good problem-solving skills required to assess customer equipment/product performance issues.  

• General understanding of MS-Office Products (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
