Essential Duties:

  • Mentor school personnel regarding health-related issues.
  • Provide services to students with disabilities as needed.
  • Improve health-related instruction through classroom visitation, observation, and demonstration teaching.
  • Exhibit communication skills and interpersonal skills sufficient to exchange and convey technical medical information to school personnel.
  • Collect information about the health and developmental status of students with disabilities in a systematic and continuous manner.
  • Maintain health records and log health services rendered for students with disabilities. Prepare and submit reports as needed.
  • Collaborate with physicians’ offices to obtain orders and information for health-related procedures to be provided at school.
  • Maintain confidentiality of individual student health status, and participate in IEP meetings as needed.
  • Maintain a comprehensive health plan which meets the existing needs and identifies future needs of students with disabilities.
  • Assist in planning and organizing staff development regarding health-related issues.
  • Provide specialized training and support to school personnel for necessary health-related procedures in order to allow special education students access to the learning environment.
  • Act as a liaison between parents, physicians, and the school.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by appropriate administrator.

 

Qualifications:

  • Maintain current LPN or RN licensure in the State of Georgia.
  • Maintain cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certification.
  • Minimum of three years nursing experience, preferred.
  • A proven record of establishing rapport and working well with professional personnel at all levels of public education; students and parents as well as with related professional organizations.
  • Exceptional integrity, commitment to confidentiality, excellent character, and strong professional reputation.
  • Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
  • Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  • Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
  • Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to properly and consistently supervise students, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
