Core job responsibilities

The Data Analyst in Risk Management will develop and maintain models and scripts to optimize daily risk activities including price/volumetric exposure assessment, portfolio position management, and storage valuation, among others. The Data Analyst will engage with the Company’s core business units and external partners to address process inefficiencies that impact the Company’s enterprise risk management approach. The Data Analyst will interpret the details of large data, provide visualization, and provide effective assessment of Gas South’s portfolio risks and their effective mitigation.  The Data Analyst will further compile and summarize natural gas market intelligence applicable to the assessment of contract rate design, natural gas asset evaluation, weather risk management, and load. The Data Analyst will also be responsible for ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the data utilized by SRM. A successful candidate for this role is proactive, curious, and a strong critical thinker.  The Data Analyst resourcefully leverages business data to report on key business metrics, assess performance, and inform business direction in strategy.  Specific to the Risk Management organization, the Data Analyst provides insight, modeling, reporting, and visualization that guides asset management decisions, risk position assessment, price and volumetric exposure, and a broad array of market-based performance metrics.  The Data Analyst will leverage a variety of coding languages for data gathering, management, and analytics.  Process automation and design are core strengths.  The Data Analyst maintains strong analytic, and model building capabilities and is motivated by process efficiency and elegant system design.

Other stuff we like:

• Bachelor’s Degree – Data Science, Data Analytics, Engineering, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Marketing or Business/Management-related preferred
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and programing languages including SQL, Python, DAX, PowerQuery, Java, and/or VB, among others
• Proficient in Git and best practices for managing code repositories
• Certificate in Data Science like CAP, SDS, MCSE Data Management and Analytics is a plus
• Ability to web-scrape from different websites and clean/aggregate data for different business needs.
• Experience with scripting, data extraction, process automation, and data management are required.
• Experience in database administration and development (Access, Azure database, Oracle, MySQL, etc.)
• Experience in designing and developing data pipeline is a plus
• Experience in building forecasting models and machine-learning algorithms
• Strong ability to present information using data visualizations techniques to inform business decisions and strategy
• General understanding of the wholesale gas market, storage and asset optimization, pipeline and utility tariff structures, and the energy industry’s regulatory framework is strongly preferred.
• Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) or BI tools is strongly preferred.
