About the role

Company Description

Block is one company built from many blocks, all united by the same purpose of economic empowerment. The blocks that form our foundational teams — People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more — provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block.

Job Description

We are looking for a Corporate Security Engineer who will support Block’s foundational teams (People, Finance, Legal, IT). To be successful, we need someone who can quickly digest new concepts, business requirements, and associated risks and can collaborate with their partner teams and with the security team to identify what risks we should accept, which we should mitigate, how, and why. This means broad security knowledge, an ability to gain technical depth quickly when necessary, and the soft skills (collaboration, ability to communicate security risks to non-engineers) and leadership required to effectively collaborate across many teams at once.

The Corporate Security team at Block is responsible for enabling foundational teams such as Finance, Business Systems, IT, Legal, People, and Communications to execute on their initiatives without compromising security. We do this by operating Block’s enterprise identity platforms, security solutions, and providing architectural guidance to our partner teams to help them build secure services.

You will:

  • Work directly with foundational teams to secure Block’s SaaS / IaaS / PaaS systems
  • Operate and enhance our workforce identity capabilities, including single sign-on and MFA (we use Okta)
  • Assist in the development of security policies, requirements, and guidelines to address corporate risk
  • Participate in threat modeling exercises with business partners to identify and remediate risks in corporate systems
  • Provide architecture guidance to influence secure designs and roadmaps for effective risk management
  • Operate and maintain our security solutions

Qualifications

You should have:

  • Experience administering enterprise security and identity platforms, including Okta and Crowdstrike
  • Administration experience with enterprise SaaS platforms (such as Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Workday, Salesforce etc) or endpoint management solutions
  • At least 2-3 years working in either enterprise IT or as a security engineer supporting a large user base

Ideal candidate would have:

  • Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language (Python, Bash, Powershell, Golang, Java etc)
  • Curiosity and interest in learning new technologies
