Senior Mechanical Engineer - Blue Ring Structures & Mechanisms Production Lead

The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, which is focused on addressing two of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit.

In this role, you will be the engineering leader responsible for Structures & Mechanisms assembly & integration work centers within the Blue Ring vehicle production system. As part of the Structures & Mechanisms Integrated Product Team, you will collaborate closely with your colleagues in Operations and other engineering functions to ensure that Blue Ring is produced efficiently and on schedule.

Responsibilities:

• Formulate and lead trade studies to improve production efficiency and reduce defects
• Formulate product design improvements
• Investigate and disposition product nonconformance conditions
• Coordinate production scheduling & hardware inventory
• Participate in multi-functional engineering change board process
• Champion engineering led safety improvements

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering or related subject area
• 10+ years of professional experience in design & development of aerospace products.
• Strong mechanical design and integration skills using 3-D CAD software (Creo Pro/E preferred).
• Proficient with application of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and performing dimensional variation analysis.
• Knowledgeable in aerospace manufacturing practices & tools.
• Proven track-record of leading projects to meet schedule, budget, and technical performance metrics.

Desired:

• Ability to apply structural mechanics principles and development designs using hand calculations and finite element analysis.
• Expertise with analysis codes: Nastran, ANSYS, Optistruct, LS/Dyna, Abaqus.
• Experience with rapid development techniques for hardware.
• Familiarity with systems engineering practices, manufacturing fabrication and assembly processes, and quality control.
• Experience with Optimization and DOE methods as applied to design, analysis, and testing.
• Experience working in a multi-functional team responsible for selecting manufacturing processes, and developing the design to produce extraordinary, engineered products.
• Proven experience developing manufacturing processes for transition to production.
