Position Overview
The NYU Tisch School of the Art invites applications for a senior tenure-line faculty position in the Department of Dance, beginning Fall 2026. We seek an internationally recognized artist-scholar whose professional practice and research have significantly shaped the global dance landscape. The successful candidate will provide visionary leadership and pedagogical mentorship within our BFA and MFA programs, bridging world-class creative inquiry with institutional service in a premier arts research environment.
Artistic & Research Profile
The ideal candidate is a visionary artist-scholar with a distinguished international profile and a robust research agenda that expands the boundaries of contemporary dance. We seek an expert in embodied research whether rooted in specific techniques (music, music technology, improvisation, dance history), somatic practices, movement science, or digital technologies to provide high-level instruction and curricular leadership for our BFA and MFA programs. As an experienced educator and practitioner, the successful candidate will demonstrate a mastery of inclusive, culturally responsive pedagogy and a commitment to mentoring a varied student body. We expect a leader whose creative practice spanning choreography, performance, or interdisciplinary collaboration reflects rigorous innovation and maintains a globally influential presence in the professional field.
Teaching and Mentorship
The successful candidate will be a transformative educator, dedicated to cultivating the next generation of global dance leaders. Beyond delivering a rigorous curriculum, they will provide intellectual generosity and incisive critique to help students refine their unique artistic voices and technical mastery. As a cornerstone mentor within the department, the faculty member will foster a culture of inclusive excellence, modeling the collaborative spirit and critical inquiry central to the NYU Tisch mission
Leadership and Service
As a senior leader, the faculty member will serve as a strategic architect for the department’s future, contributing to the intellectual and artistic vitality of the Tisch community. Beyond the classroom, the candidate will steer curriculum innovation, lead program visioning, and participate actively in faculty governance. We seek a collaborative colleague who models inclusive leadership and fosters a supportive environment for faculty and students alike. The successful candidate will be a proactive voice in institutional initiatives, shaping the evolution of dance education both within NYU and throughout the global professional landscape.
Salary Range
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for an Associate Professor position is $110,000 - $140,000. This pay range represents base pay only (for 9 months paid over 12 months) and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
