About the role

The Genetics and Women’s Health division of LabCorp is seeking a Clinical Genomics Specialist to join our diverse team of Variant Scientists. Genomics science is a key component of our overall strategy and growth in genomics. The variant sciences team contributes to data sharing, supports gene and panel content development for a wide array of disorders and develops our in-house semi-automated rules-based classification workbench while exploring automated approaches to scale up our ever-growing variant classification needs.  A strong background in human genetics, clinical experience, and familiarity with human mutation databases and HGVS nomenclature is essential.   

Please note: This position may be physically located at our laboratory in Westborough, MA or RTP, NC, or may be remote. Candidate must reside in the US.  The schedule for this position will be Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm local time zone. 

Responsibilities:  

  • Research and interpret variants from whole exome or whole genome sequencing and assess their clinical relevance by correlating findings with clinical information
  • Establish phenotype-genotype relationships 
  • Classify and interpret human genetic genomic variants in accordance with company SOPs 
  • Maintain communication with laboratories located within or outside Labcorp 
  • Maintain tracking documents in relation to the variant-classification process 
  • Maintain active reports on variant processing status and performance 
  • Troubleshoot NGS pipeline variant annotations as required 
  • Interact collaboratively with laboratory directors, genetic counselors, and teams across the organization regarding variant assessment 
  • Interact with the software vendors/IT/bioinformatics group(s) regarding technology needs as and when required 
  • Contribute to projects, publications and posters as needed
  • Review scientific literature and attend and contribute to relevant scientific meetings as needed

Required qualifications:  

  • Master’s in Genetic Counseling/Human Genetics
  • ABGC/ABMG certification or active candidate status preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with clinical analysis of exome or whole genome sequencing in a clinical diagnostics setting

Key Skills:  

  • Strong analytical capabilities, scientific writing and communication skills, organization, ability to critically review, comprehend, ascertain and document relevant clinical and functional data from scientific publications and online databases 
  • Ability to use bioinformatics software and Microsoft Office suite of products (specifically use of Microsoft Excel to mine, parse and automate analysis of datasets) 
  • Proficiency with large NGS datasets, in-silico tools, HGVS nomenclature, and genome browsers. 
  • Ability to meet production timelines with a sense of urgency and ethical responsibility in a rapidly evolving dynamic setting 

Pay Range: $100,000-120,000 / year
