Job Description Summary

Reports directly to the Quality Manager.
Leads activities of the in-process quality inspection process for the assigned manufacturing area.
Perform product and material/component hold when nonconforming or out of specification elements are identified.
Plan out monthly roster for inspection coverage to address inspector PTO/leave approvals and ensure business continuity.
Ensures that Inspectors are adequately trained, and that manufactured product is inspected and conforms to defined product specifications.
Coordinates systems and procedure changes as authorized by QA Management.
Responsible for the containment, inspection and reporting of nonconforming materials to department quality engineers, quality manager and production unit manager.
Supports investigations into product and process nonconformances with quality engineering.
Perform product releases in conjunction with DHR approval, QN closure and sterilization release.

JOB SUMMARY

Reports directly to the Quality Manager. Leads activities of the in-process quality inspection process for the assigned manufacturing area. Ensures that Inspectors are adequately trained, and that manufactured product is inspected and conforms to defined product specifications. Coordinates systems and procedure changes as authorized by QA Management. Responsible for the containment, inspection and reporting of nonconforming materials to department quality engineers, quality manager and production unit manager. Supports investigations into product and process nonconformances with quality engineering.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinates and guides the activities of in-process Inspectors daily. Assures appropriate coverage to support production and plant validation efforts.

  • Plans out monthly inspector rotation schedule and identifies coverage gaps related to approved PTO/leave. Works closely with other shift leads and inspectors to coordinate coverage and ensure business continuity.

  • Mentors associates in performance of their responsibilities focusing on safety and conformance to BD requirements.

  • Ensures nonconforming product is placed on hold per site procedures and that the product is identified as required.

  • Is accountable for promoting safety and quality on all shifts, coaches QA Inspectors on safety engagement.

  • As a great teammate, works with Production to resolve all quality issues.

  • Maintains compliance with all training requirements, ensures training is current and completed within the time allotted.

  • Holds periodic meetings with QA Inspectors to stress quality awareness, QSRs, product quality trends, changes, etc.

  • Complete administrative requirements as necessary, i.e., attendance exception reports and special projects. Schedules overtime as required.

  • Provides input and makes recommendations associated with quality inspectors related to selection, promotion, transfer, disciplinary actions, or discharge.

  • The QA Team Lead may make final disposition on the Notification Systems.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operates within the Safety and QSR guidelines of BD-Sumter

  • Performs miscellaneous duties as required by management.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience

  • H.S. Diploma/G.E.D. or equivalent experience

  • Vocational/Technical School preferred

  • Minimum of 2 years QA Inspector experience in a manufacturing environment

  • 1+ year SAP experience preferred

  • Experience mentoring or coaching teammates desired


Experience and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of precision measuring instruments and interpretation of blueprints and specifications.

  • Good interpersonal and written skills

  • Knowledge of computers with ability to run software such as Windows based spreadsheets.
