ABOUT THE JOB
The Tepa Companies are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our finance team and support the accurate management of financial operations. This role involves maintaining General Ledger accounts, reviewing business transactions, and ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, exceptional problem-solving skills, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Job Functions:
- Prepare and analyze financial statements on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Maintain and oversee the Fixed Asset schedule, ensuring accurate recording of new purchases, disposals, and associated depreciation schedules, while preparing monthly journal entries.
- Perform detailed account reconciliations for accounts receivable, accounts payable, retainage, prepaids, and other balance sheet accounts, ensuring accuracy and alignment with the general ledger.
- Accrue expenses and reconcile accounts by analyzing financial data, assigning account numbers, and ensuring timely adjustments.
- Support tax compliance by filing and paying gross receipt taxes, sales and use taxes, and maintaining city and local business registrations.
- Maintain accounting controls by adhering to organizational policies, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements, and identifying opportunities to improve processes.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial operations by analyzing current procedures, recommending changes, and providing training to team members.
- Conduct ad hoc financial analyses and prepare custom reports to support strategic decision-making and address financial inquiries.
- Assist in the development and preparation of joint venture and subsidiary financial statements, including detailed fluctuation analyses and Work in Progress (WIP) reporting.
- Collaborate with operations teams to ensure accurate posting of customer payments, job-level costs, and other operational transactions.
- Understand and manage cost pool allocations by building and analyzing cost pools, understanding target vs actual rates, and providing clear explanations to business leaders.
- Contribute to audit processes by preparing documentation, responding to internal and external audit inquiries, and ensuring compliance with recommendations.
- Update job knowledge by participating in professional development opportunities, reading relevant publications, and maintaining strong networks within the field.
- File, maintain, and distribute accounting records and reports, ensuring document accuracy and organization.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the Accounting Department and organizational objectives.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- 5+ years general ledger or general accounting experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills; must be detail oriented
- Working knowledge of GAAP
- Strong working experience with Business Registrations and Gross Receipt taxes
- Strong analytical skills
