The Project Coordinator will oversee the research and project management of Penn IUR's role as the Secretariat for the Global Commission for Urban SDG Finance. The Project Coordinator will conduct research on innovative financing mechanisms for subnational governments working to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and support the workings of the 100-member Commission such as the management and oversight of regular meetings and communications and special conferences and convenings.Job Description
Job Responsibilities
- In fulfillment of Penn IUR’s grant from CAF (Development Bank of Latin America), writing three research papers on innovative financing mechanisms for cities to implement the Sustainable Development Goals. The papers include 1) a general assessment of guarantee funds, 2) operationalizing a green guarantee fund — structure, financing, scenarios demonstrating types of guarantees, and 3) assessing the market for Latin American urban Infrastructure investments in Colombia, Mexico, Uruguay, and Costa Rica.
- As an integral part of two research teams, writing key sections of two collaborative papers: 1) on integrating subnational elements to country platforms — leading the section on Egypt, Brazil, Madagascar, and Cote D’Ivoire. Along with the other research partners – the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Climate Policy Initiative (CPI), and City Climate Leadership Alliance (CCFLA) – this paper will be submitted to the Sustainable Finance Working Group of the G20; and 2) on Developing City Investment Portfolios in association with the Resilient Cities Network (RCN), Deloitte, Howden, and ARUP.
- Organize and develop Commission sessions and associated presentations for the UN, Global Environmental Fund (GEF), OECD, and others. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, securing and coordinating UN-member state representatives and other finance and urban expert speakers (representing Mexico, Uganda, Brazil, Spain, Kenya, World Bank, UN-CDF, UN-Habitat, and others); and similarly coordinating Commission panels at international conferences such as the OECD Urban Days in Paris and World Bank spring meetings in Washington DC.
