Job Overview:

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is responsible for the day-to-day respiratory care services and therapy.  Daily responsibilities include Respiratory Therapy training instruction to Deaconess Home Medical Equipment or its subsidiaries (hereafter HME) clients, working with the HME staff to ensure quality patient care and maintain compliance with all regulatory agencies. This position reports to the HME Sleep Services Supervisor and subject to duties as assigned by Lead Registered Respiratory Therapist.

 

Job duties include the following, other duties may be assigned

  • This position coordinates care among patient, caregiver, physician and co-workers for respiratory therapy clients.
  • Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.
  • Perform activities related to the assessment, provision of care, and patient education.
  • Read prescriptions, measured blood gases, and review patient information to assess patient to ensure careful adherence to physicians’ orders.
  • Inspect, clean, test and maintain respiratory equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently, ordering repairs when necessary.
  • Make emergency visits to resolve equipment problems.
  • Monitor documentation and care plans for HME clients.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities surrounding home respiratory therapy services.
  • Must be able to work independently and illustrate outstanding solid decisions.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and standards while operating within the department’s mission and demonstrating the departmental values.
  • Providing personal assistance, mental attention, emotional support, or other personal care to others such as co-workers, customers, or patients.
  • Demonstrate a desire to meet and exceed customer needs.

 

Required: Certifications/Licenses/Education:

Graduate of Accredited College/University Respiratory Therapy School.  Minimum of two years experience in a home respiratory therapy program desired.  Ability to increase knowledge of medical terminology, diagnosis codes, Medicare HCPC codes, and Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement knowledge required.

 

Preferred Certification/License/Experience:

  • RCP License on IPLA
  • RRT on NBRC
