Job Description:

The Medical Assistant has the training and expertise necessary to assist the Radiation Oncologist, Advanced Practice Provider, Registered Nurse, Radiation Therapist, Medical Dosimetrist, and Medical Physicist in providing excellent clinical care and patient experience. The Medical Assistant’s primary responsibilities include coordinating care of patients presenting for clinic visits, obtaining patient health data, assisting with procedures, and performing quality assurance and clinical inventory procedures. All assigned duties and responsibilities are to be executed by the Medical Assistant under the supervision of the Radiation Oncologist, Advanced Practice Provider, and Registered Nurse. The Medical Assistant is required to maintain a high level of professionalism and excellence in patient care.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Promptly greets patients and guests and coordinates patient activities in the clinic.
  • Obtains and documents clinical data and health screening information in new and established patient visits and procedures.
  • Measures and documents patient vital statistics.
  • Assists with diagnostic exams and procedures.
  • Administers medications and processes prescriptions as ordered by physician or advanced practice provider.
  • Schedules and coordinates clinical appointments and procedures as ordered by physician or advanced practice provider.
  • Sorts, scans, and files patient internal and external medical records into appropriate clinical applications.
  • Communicates oncology, diagnostic, and treatment information to patients.
  • Answers and documents internal and external patient communication (e.g., phone contact, patient portal).
  • Routes calls and messages to appropriate employee or department.
  • Audits, documents, and orders clinic medications and supplies.
  • Promotes the safety of patients and team members, performing disinfection procedures of equipment, and high-contact surfaces, and promptly reporting incidents and unsafe conditions.
  • Interacts in an open, cooperative manner with all co-workers to create a positive work climate and promotes high-level professionalism in delivering patient care.
  • Promotes positive patient experience, encouraging patients and involved caregivers to participate in patient satisfaction surveys.
  • Exercises problem-solving and conflict resolution skills when handling patient complaints; refers patient complaints to appropriate designated personnel as needed.
  • Functions as a preceptor to newly hired staff.
  • Adheres to all Tennessee Oncology policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Medical Assistant Certification (CMA, CCMA, NCMA, NRCMA)

*Candidates who have 1 year of qualified work experience in medical assisting will be considered with

continued employment contingent on obtaining Medical Assistant certification within 90 days of hire date.
