Summary:
The Electrician/Fire Alarm Tech is to provide a safe, reliable, code compliant, and functional infrastructure, that produces an efficient living and learning environment. The DC licensed electrician and/or NICET certified technician is responsible for evaluating, maintaining, repairing, and replacing a variety of electrical and life safety facility components (as their training and credentialing may allow), to ensure the equipment is fully operational and meets university standards. The position holder will also be involved in corrective and preventive maintenance, minor alteration work, and may oversee temporary labor, and/or other trade persons or contractors as required. The position holder requires general supervision and often works independently.
Essential Functions:
Performs routine testing, inspection, operation and maintenance of campus central Fire Alarm System(s) and Sprinkler systems (wet, dry and special hazard) and in order to assure that these systems are code compliant, safe and operating as designed.
Includes corrective repairs and construction, renovation, improvement projects (e.g. Capital, Deferred Maint., Energy projects) support.
Performs routine testing, inspection, operation and maintenance of campus Medium Voltage electrical systems, emergency generator and transfer equipment/systems in order to assure that these systems are code compliant, safe and operating as designed.
Includes corrective repairs and construction, renovation, improvement projects (e.g. Capital, Deferred Maint., Energy projects) support.
Perform logistical and administrative functions associated with workload. Attend meetings and recommended/required trainings in order to stay current with codes, departmental procedures, new equipment and to maximize job performance.
Provide expert support for Commissioning, Special Events and other duties as assigned.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Full-Time.
40 hours per week.
Hours are 7:30am – 4:00pm Monday-Friday (with occasional late evening, night, and weekend work).
