The Role

We’re seeking a Applied AI Backend Engineering Lead to lead our AI team in integrating advanced AI solutions into our next-generation legal tech platforms and product (not research). You’ll architect, implement, and scale AI-driven features that directly impact our users, shaping both the technical direction of our product and the growth of the engineering team. What You’ll Do

Lead AI-driven Backend Development

• Architect solutions: Design and implement AI-powered features into our product.

• Feature development: Build scalable backend systems that power AI functionality.

• Innovation: Propose AI enhancements and improvements to elevate user experience.

Improve system performance and scalability

• Optimization: Identify and address performance bottlenecks across AI and core backend systems.

• Scalability planning: Build systems that scale with growing AI workloads and user demand.

• Monitoring & troubleshooting: Leverage metrics and logs to proactively maintain system reliability.

Mentor and support the AI Solutions Team

• Team leadership: Guide engineers through code reviews, workshops, and pair programming.

• Knowledge sharing: Foster a culture of learning around AI integration and backend best practices.

• Career growth: Support junior engineers in skill development and confidence building.

Collaborate across teams

• Cross-functional planning: Partner with Product, Design, and AI teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.

• Problem-solving: Drive discussions to resolve complex technical and product challenges.

• Feedback loop: Help prioritize AI initiatives, technical debt, and feature requests for maximum impact.

What You’ll Bring

The ideal candidate would have:

• Extensive experience with Ruby on Rails and backend architectures in production environments

• Strong understanding of web applications, RESTful APIs, and database design

• Hands-on experience with AI integration, CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and cloud-based deployments

• Proven track record of performance optimization and scaling complex applications
