Job Description Summary

Department of Cancer Biology lab at the Perelman School of Medicine is seeking a motivated, skilled, and organized research specialist. The lab investigates the molecular and cellular basis of diseases, especially cancer and neurodegeneration. The Research Specialist A will (1) participate in research projects using a range of techniques including molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell culture techniques, as well as animal models; (2) function as lab manager and assist PI in overseeing the operation of the lab;(3) write animal protocols, manage animal colonies, and training students and other scientists for animal-related work; (4) assist PI, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows with experimental procedures and analysis. The Research Specialist B, in addition to the above mentioned duties, will also lead a research project.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities

  • Participate in research projects on neurodegenerative disease or cancer using a wide range of techniques
  • Help in the general running of the lab, including: ordering, receiving items, and maintaining lab organization
  • Assist with writing lab protocols and supervising undergraduates
  • Write animal protocols, manage animal colonies
  • Assist PI, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers with experimental procedure and analysis
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Along with above duties, Research Specialist B will:

Drive a research project (collect, analyze and interpret data, and present data at group meetings)

Position is contingent upon continued funding.

Qualifications

  • Research Specialist A - Bachelor of Science and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Research Specialist B - Bachelor of Science and 1 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
