Personal Supports - Sat and Sun 9am - 2pm

Job Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Direct Support Professional to provide personal support to an individual who is on a journey to recover from a significant cardiac event. This role is essential in helping them regain their strength and return to a more active lifestyle.

Location: Beltsville, MD

Key Responsibilities:

Encouraging Light Exercise:
o    Engage them in light exercise routines tailored to their recovery needs.
o    Support them in developing a personalized exercise plan to enhance their physical fitness safely.

Assisting with Physical Therapy:
o    Collaborate with them to reinforce techniques learned during their recent physical therapy sessions.
o    Monitor their progress and encourage adherence to their exercise regimen.

Medical Appointment Support:
o    Attend medical follow-up appointments with them to provide support and ensure they understand any instructions or recommendations from healthcare providers.
o    Help them manage scheduling and transportation to these appointments.

Promoting an Active Lifestyle:
o    Encourage them to participate in activities that interest them, fostering a sense of independence and enjoyment in their daily routine.
o    Help them set achievable goals for physical activity, celebrating milestones to boost motivation.

Communication and Support:
o    Maintain open and clear communication with them, actively listening to their concerns and preferences.
o    Provide emotional support and encouragement throughout their recovery journey.

Candidate Qualities:

• Passionate about fitness and light exercise, with an understanding of safe practices for individuals recovering from cardiac events.
• Comfortable attending medical appointments and communicating effectively with healthcare professionals.
• Patient, empathetic, and supportive, with a positive attitude towards helping others achieve their health goals.
• Ability to adapt to the person supported individual needs and adjust activities based on their energy levels and progress.

Required Qualifications:

• Fully Vaccinated against COVID-19
• High School Diploma
• Valid Driver’s License
• Possess a strong service orientation, including active listening, critical thinking skills, and close monitoring of individuals supported.
• Comfortable in an environment where individuals supported may not be able to perform essential life duties.
• Ability to work professionally and discretely with confidential information.
• High level of personal and professional integrity.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in a verbal and written manner.
• Demonstrates sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
• Ability to use computer applications to fulfill job duties, including the use of individual documentation system, Microsoft Word, assigned payroll systems, LTSS (as assigned) and vehicle inspection reporting system
   

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged standing, leaning, walking, bending, and lifting periods.
• Prolonged periods are sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
