Job Description

Job Duties

As a Researcher, you will coordinate with and support management, control rooms, and field teams to ensure live reporter hits get to air. This position works within the DC Live Desk located in NBCs Washington D.C. bureau.

  • Confirm and coordinate logistics for DC live requests (including guest bookings) for all NBC platforms – this includes communicating directly with correspondents, field teams, various bureaus, the Netdesk and show teams in real time
  • Work in tandem with the DC assignment desk on editorial planning for next day live assignments
  • Flag relevant feeds and editorial to show control rooms in real time
  • Be well-versed in the editorial of the day; in breaking news, anticipate reporter requests, coordinate last minute live requests and problem solve on tight deadlines
  • Work in tandem with assignment desk on crewing
  • Pitch stories, conduct research for packages, assist producers on reporter offers
  • Work in the field as needed

This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or a related field
  • Minimum one year professional network news experience, either with a program, bureau or assignment
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays and overnights, under tight deadline pressure, occasionally with little or no warning (e.g. breaking news).
  • Must be willing to work in Washington DC

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of NBC News programs, on-air correspondents, policies, guidelines and practices
  • Knowledge and experience using AVID iNews
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge and interest in news and current events
  • Strong journalistic writing skills, research skills, and editorial judgment
  • Ability to multitask under pressure and in a stressful, deadline driven environment where teamwork is fostered
  • Excellent time management skills
