Job Title:

Ice Cream Production Coordinator and Instructional Lab Supervisor

30% Instructional Lab Manager:

• Provides supervision and training for graduate students on instructional techniques for laboratory teaching for all general lab courses.
• Oversee the daily operation and personnel in all teaching labs; ensures teaching labs (Parker 124 and 136) are properly equipped and maintained; oversee the contents of laboratory rooms including known and unknown reagents and waste disposal.
• Develops and maintains a safety program for labs and establishes procedures for handling emergencies. Acts as a role model for exemplary laboratory practice and safety.
• Coordinates lab availability, preparedness and teaching schedules with instructors and faculty.
• Sets up and cleans up lab for teaching, coordinates with pilot plant supervisors to ensure equipment is set up for classes in pilot plants; assists instructors to facilitate high quality instruction. Assists faculty in developing the annual course lab schedule.
• Recommends and purchases equipment needed for teaching and ensures equipment is available and functional for upcoming experiments, maintains equipment in working order.
• Responsible for asset disposal, tagging, photographing and annual internal audits of asset management, along with a quarterly audit of gas cylinders to ensure proper assignment and use. (?)

30% Ice Cream Production Coordinator:

• Manage all aspects of ice cream production including batch, continuous, and soft-serve ice cream production.
• Manage all inventories regarding production, packaging and distribution of ice cream. Maintain an active directory of suppliers, vendors and clients for OSU ice cream.
• Manage all aspects of quality control/ quality assurance for the manufacture of ice cream.
• Manage and supervise the hiring (hourly) of help in the production of ice cream. Establish strategies for sale of ice cream

40% Dairy Pilot Plant Manager:

• Strategizes with the pilot plant and research lab manager the coordination of pilot plant activities that require classroom scheduling and planning, product manufacturing for foods, training of external stakeholders
• Works with the pilot plant and research lab manager to prepare for teaching the lab classes that take place in the pilot plant
• Instructs faculty, staff, students and visitors on the proper use of machinery, including dairy process machines.

Minimum Education Required: Bachelor's Level Degree with a Major in food science & technology or chemistry education or equivalent experience. Master’s Level Degree in Food Science and Technology is preferred.

Required Qualifications: Experience in operation and maintenance of lab equipment; familiarity with regulations related to safe laboratory practices, excellent communication skills. Experience in Dairy Plant Operations and Management.

Desired Qualifications: Ability to trouble shoot and problem solve, experience working with graduate and undergraduate students is desired.
